If eagles, birdies, pars and bogeys are your language of love, a visit to Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community should be on your priority list.

Listed on Golf Digest’s list of Best Places to Play and awarded “Most Romantic Accommodations in Western Canada” by Golf Course Ranking Magazine, Crown Isle—located in the heart of the Comox Valley—wins on both sides of the green.

A favourite destination among celebrities and Canadian hockey players, this 831-acre, master planned golf course and resort community on Vancouver Island is not just an oasis for golf lovers and people visiting nearby Mount Washington, but also a lifestyle destination resort for people who like the ‘green’ side of life.

Taking centre stage is Crown Isle’s platinum-rated Par 72, 18-hole golf course, playable by golfers of all levels. Designed by Graham Cooke & Associates in 1992, the course also offers a magnificent driving range, putting greens and practice bunkers. If you’re looking for help with your swing, there is also an excellent golf academy with instruction by pro golf coach Robert Ratcliffe and a team of seven support staff.

The resort community is comprised of the exquisitely stylish 48,000-sq.-ft Resort Centre, 92 Villas; 700 residential homes including single-family units, condos and patio homes; two restaurants (including a snazzy cigar and cognac room) and even a classic car museum! If you’re a Villa guest or resident, you just walk out your door and play. Located close to the Resort Centre and first tee, the Villas offer Fairway Rooms, One and Two Bedroom Villas and Loft Villas—perfect for romantic holidays, corporate retreats, golf holidays or extended stays. Some villas offer Jacuzzi tubs, full kitchens, living rooms with TVs and VCRs or DVDs as well as gas fireplaces.

Because Crown Isle is located at the centre of Vancouver Island’s prime recreational heartland—just 10 minutes from the Comox Valley and 35 minutes from Mount Washington Alpine Resort, it breeds the multitasking vacationer.

“I call it the seasonal daily double,” says Jason Andrew, who acts as both Crown Isle’s director of golf and director of real estate. “Fishing and golfing in the summer, skiing and golfing in the winter.”

With nearly year-round access due to the Island’s mild climate, many visitors find it difficult to come for just an afternoon round. “Our guests get the 24-7 experience at Crown Isle,” says Andrew. “Golf, dinner, overnight stay…for most, the experience lasts two days, three days or longer.”

“We warn people,” he continues, chuckling, “that they may never want to leave.”

And indeed, Crown Isle’s motto “Come for a tee time, stay for a lifetime” isn’t just clever marketing. One of the few golf communities around still owned by the original partners —Ron Coulson and Rick Jackson—and conceived from the start to foster a village atmosphere where people spend the greater part of their lives, Crown Isle has a large and diverse residential community that includes families, semi-retired persons and retirees. Ultimately, Crown Isle plans to develop more residential home sites, a congregate care facility, shopping centre and spa.

Whether you’re a passionate golfer looking for a magnificent new green or a West Coast enthusiast looking for a new home, Crown Isle is a great place to park your putt.
