Harbour Air Malta Takes Off
Merhba! Harbour Air is proud to announce our new seaplane service in Malta. We began operations in July with flights linking the beautiful Grand Harbour in Malta to sister island Gozo.
With one 14-passenger Single Otter aircraft, we offer five round-trips a day from the Valletta Waterfront to Mgarr Harbour together with several scenic tours around the Maltese islands. Our service has already proved to be very popular with the cruise passengers who disembark near the Malta terminal, as
Takeoff in Valetta Harbour (Winston Azzopardi)well as business travellers who can cross over to Gozo in a matter of minutes.
Winston Azzopardi, one of the directors of Harbour Air in Malta, says, “We are very pleased with the response we have received from various sectors, especially tourism-related agencies who want to offer flights to their customers. The cruise liners’ agents have already confirmed that we will be featured in their brochures for 2008. The testimonials we have been receiving from passengers have been very encouraging.”
Harbour Air’s other Maltese director Alfie Manduca, together with sales director Lara Vassallo, has been in negotiations with Italian officials about extending the service to Sicily early next year.
Proud to be North America’s First Carbon Neutral Airline
Harbour Air takes environmental responsibility a step further with our pledge to become completely carbon neutral by the end of 2007.
Starting October 1, 2007, Harbour Air began purchasing high-quality carbon offsets to mitigate the climate impact of all scheduled service, charter and tour operations. This made Harbour Air the first air carrier of any variety in North America and the only seaplane airline in the world to make all of its flight services 100 per cent carbon neutral.
This year to date, Harbour Air has contributed over $15,000 to carbon neutral programs and is further pledging to offset its corporate emissions to become the first carrier in the world to achieve complete carbon neutrality in all aspects of its business. The company will institute a policy to track, reduce, and offset its corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by January 1, 2008.
This is an expansion of a voluntary carbon offset surcharge that Harbour Air introduced in July 2007. Response from clients was overwhelmingly positive and now the offset applies to all Harbour Air flights. Harbour Air views this initiative as a way to demonstrate that it is serious about putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to being a socially and environmentally responsible company.
This venture was created in partnership with Vancouver-based Offsetters Climate Neutral Society. Offsetters.ca is Canada’s pre-eminent provider of high-quality carbon offsets for individuals and companies seeking to reduce or eliminate their climate impact. It is a not-for-profit company that invests funds from Harbour Air and other clients into renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects that would not have taken place without its involvement. Funds generated from this partnership will be used to initiate offset projects within Harbour Air’s operating area.
