If you are a book lover, head to Victoria in March! Victoria Arts Connection is pleased to present the 2nd Annual Pacific Festival of the Book taking place March 10-20, 2008. The festival is a dynamic multidisciplinary event that celebrates the book as a vessel for ideas and stories
that reflect the currents of contemporary culture. This year’s theme is “A Climate of Change” and with the help of author talks, readings, visual art displays and activities featuring over 40 publishers, writers, artists and organizations, the public will discover the effect that climate, technological and political change has on the people involved in the literary arts. Starting this year, the festival will also feature the works of aspiring youth in an anthology of poetry, non-fiction and creative non-fiction. For registration or for more information regarding the festival or the Victoria Arts Connection, please visit www.victoriaartsconnection.com.
Over the years many individuals—working independently and through organizations, groups, institutions and businesses— have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, determination and compassion in responding to the AIDS epidemic. On Sunday, April 13, 2008 we celebrate their achievements at the 7th Annual AccolAIDS Awards Gala taking place at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the British Columbia Persons With AIDS Society (BCPWA), a provincial not-for-profit organization that exists to enable persons living with HIV and AIDS to empower themselves through mutual support and collective action. The evening includes a cocktail reception, silent and live auction, three-course dinner, entertainment and the awards ceremony. Tickets for AccolAIDS are $150 each or $1200 for a table of eight. For more information, to donate to the auction or purchase tickets please contact the BCPWA at 604.915.9255 or e-mail accolaids@bcpwa.org.
