Vancouver International Auto Show
When it feels like the walls are closing in, there are few cures better for the soul than a solitary drive on the open road in a fast, brand new car. Whether listening to your own personal soundtrack or just the sound of the engine and your own breath in fuelled synergy, it’s a rush like no other.
The 87th Vancouver International Auto Show, running from March 31 to April 8 at BC Place Stadium, has something for all car enthusiasts and is as much a celebration of the driver as it is an auto
Ford F250 Super Chiefexhibition.
As Canada’s third largest auto show, boasting 250,000 square feet of manufacturers and suppliers exhibits, there’s something for everyone—from those browsing for a new minivan to the gearheads who feast on every spec and accessory of the annual event. Hosted by the New Car Dealers Association of BC, the auto show will be home to 450 makes and models. Visitors will have the chance to win the grand prize vehicle and other enticing prize packages.
The auto industry is well aware that every eight seconds another baby-boomer turns 50, and many of those boomers are giving up their family convenience vehicles for something a little more fun. While organizers can be notoriously secretive about what sporty or high performance cars will be featured or debuted at their shows, rumour has it that this year’s big players will be Volvo, Subaru, and Suzuki.
Of the new cars, the latest SUVs are still the biggest draw for the average car buyer. But as eco-green concerns become more mainstream, car manufacturers want to ensure that they are ahead of the times. Concept vehicles showcasing the latest in innovation and design regularly steal the limelight at auto shows. Take the Ford F250 Super Chief, for example, being presented at this year’s show. This powerful truck has the world’s first ‘Tri-Flex’ fueling system, enabling the supercharged V-10 to run 800 kilometres between fill-ups on hydrogen, ethanol or gasoline.
Indeed, this may be the year of the hybrid vehicle. In 2001 the Toyota Prius was the first mass produced hybrid car available to the consumer, but today a dozen models are widely available. Vancouver’s auto show will be a coming-of-age party for the new green technology.
Whether you are interested in hybrids, SUVs, family vehicles or sports cars, the Vancouver International Auto Show displays the latest and greatest in new vehicles for all tastes.
