Where to Get... a Segway
Segways are those futuristic electronic ‘Human Transporters.’ Heads turn whenever anyone zips by on one.
And yes, they feel awesome. You roll back and forth by leaning, you rotate by turning your wrist. Gliding along a seawall, bike path or sidewalk, you feel like one of the Jetsons.
Canada’s first Segway owner, Bryon Lawes of Vancouver, rides for his arthritis, for fun and because “I get to talk to thousands of interesting people that I’d never meet if I was in my car.”

Lawes has Segwayed the Great Wall of China and tangoed his Segway in Buenos Aires. Wife Ginny also Segways and their Maltese, Little Bits, rides his carrier bag.
But where do you find Segways? Not in the local Yellow Pages. You won’t even see a Segways ad.
Recently, Vancouver’s two Segway rental outlets closed. And in Victoria, where city council’s even banned electric wheelchairs from Victoria trails, Rob Sarrazin couldn’t get licensed for his planned Segway rental.
Never mind. You too can ride a Segway. Even on the Islands or BC’s southern coast, you can rent Segways through Enviro-Glide Rentals in Langley.
And with the February 11th opening of BC’s first dealership, you no longer have to trek to the US to buy Segways or spare parts.
